Valve, the well-known company behind the Steam gaming platform, is developing an artificial intelligence bot called SteamGPT, according to information revealed in recently discovered files.
This new system aims to address customer support issues and monitor anti-cheat usage, especially in the popular game Counter-Strike 2.
SteamGPT will have access to critical details of user accounts, including account age, trust score, and ban history. This last metric is part of the Trust Factor system that Valve uses to manage player behavior and mitigate cheating.
It is noteworthy that the trust score also takes into account factors such as the linking of the phone number and the use of Steam Guard, as well as in-game behavior, which includes griefing.
The found code suggests that SteamGPT could potentially control the anti-cheat system of Counter-Strike 2 by evaluating player performance and actions, rather than just looking for cheating software. However, it is still unclear how far along the development of this system is or if Valve plans to release it publicly.
Despite Valve’s historical caution regarding the use of artificial intelligence in its marketing, it cannot be ignored that 7% of the games in its library already use AI-generated content, indicating an openness to this technology.
If SteamGPT is launched, it could help maintain the remarkable efficiency of the company, which generates nearly $50 million for each of its 350 employees, establishing itself as one of the most profitable companies in the world.
Rumors suggest that, although development is underway, Valve may be considering whether SteamGPT will be a publicly released tool or just a concept in testing.
