Vin Diesel’s latest Instagram post with Star Wars creator George Lucas set off a wave of backlash online after Diesel shared a photo from the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles and referred to himself and Lucas as “Architects of mythology.” A lot of readers read that as Diesel putting himself next to the man behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
In the caption, Diesel wrote that George Lucas’s museum “will be a gift to the world… and to those, who aren’t even born yet…”, and plenty of people took that phrasing as another sign that he was positioning himself alongside Lucas.
That interpretation spread fast. Critics argued that, whatever kind of global reach the Fast & Furious franchise has, it doesn’t occupy the same cultural ground as Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Other people took the post in a looser sense, as praise for visual storytellers and world-builders in general. Diesel hasn’t explained what he meant, though, and neither Lucas nor his representatives have said anything publicly.
If you’ve followed Diesel’s social media for a while, the reaction makes sense. He’s been talking about the Fast & Furious franchise in grand, mythic terms for years, and has even compared the weight of carrying it forward to J.R.R. Tolkien. For fans, that sincerity is part of the charm. For everyone else, it turns posts like this into easy material for ridicule.
And there’s likely to be more Vin Diesel news before long, with Fast Forever reportedly set to begin filming in December ahead of a March 2028 release, Universal preparing to open Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, Diesel’s feud with Dwayne Johnson apparently cooling off, and Michael Caine linked to a Last Witch Hunter sequel.
