Many franchises born in the heat of the 32-bit era lie half asleep. Classic titles from the era of the first PlayStation do not receive new games even if the nostalgia factor makes them highly valued and remembered by the general public. Something that makes this absence even more noticeable, and absurd.
Among all those franchises, one of the most outstanding is Spyro the Dragon. Born in 1998 by Insomniac Games, it is a platform and adventure game starring a purple dragon named Spyro, who would go on to have up to ten main titles. Winning the affection of several generations and becoming an icon of PlayStation, perhaps not at the level of Mario or Sonic, but not too far from that.
Now, Spyro’s official Twitter page has posted a tweet that has promised us to stay tuned for the future of the franchise. Because under the message “2024 slogan” they have uploaded an image of Spyro with the message “you must believe” written on it. This has made many people think that the young dragon is going to return in the form of a new video game.
While we don’t have concrete reasons to believe this is true, there are reasons to be optimistic. The license is currently in the hands of Activision Blizzard, which was recently acquired by Microsoft, and the last game in the franchise was in 2018 with Reignited Trilogy, a remake of the three original games in the saga that performed well. So it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that they may have decided to give this PlayStation classic a new life.
Again, nothing is confirmed. And if confirmed, we shouldn’t rule out the possibility that the new Spyro could be exclusive to Xbox. But in the meantime, we can always dream of a new installment of our favorite video game dragon.
