Spotify has launched a beta test of an exciting new feature called SongDNA, designed to transform the way users explore music.
This tool, available for Premium subscribers, can be accessed through the SongDNA card in the playback section. Its goal is to provide comprehensive details about songs, including information about collaborators, musical samples, interpolations, and covers.
Discover the creative process behind your favorite songs with SongDNA
SongDNA presents itself as an interactive tool that allows listeners to immerse themselves in the creative process behind their favorite tracks. By tapping on the names of featured artists and collaborators, users can discover new musicians and explore the connections between them, thus facilitating the search for new music.
Jacqueline Ankner, head of composer and publisher partnerships at Spotify, commented that this feature helps fans better understand how songs are created and discover new talents in the process.
The SongDNA feature complements “About this song,” which was introduced in February and offers a personal insight into the artist’s inspiration. While “About this song” focuses on the creator’s perspective, SongDNA provides a broader overview of the musical environment in which the song is developed, highlighting collaboration and how influences intertwine in music production.
Spotify has also announced that, in the future, it will allow artists and labels to adjust the information presented in SongDNA, ensuring that the right story behind their works is told. This evolution points to greater control by creators over how their music is presented, which could further enrich the experience for listeners. Although SongDNA is just a test for now, it is clear that Spotify remains committed to innovation in music discovery.
