Kick’s Unpopularity Among Good Streamers: Exploring the Issues with Twitch’s Lesser-Known Competitor
In Spain, many streamers such as AuronPlay or Ibai have made it clear that they are not going to leave Twitch for the moment, let alone a site that promotes…
The streaming world used to revolve around Twitch and YouTube until not long ago. However, in recent months, a third player has emerged, attracting content creators away from Amazon’s streaming service. But is Kick a decent place?
The widely known streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys made a striking statement when she declared that she wouldn’t stream on Kick, not even for 10 million dollars, as doing so would “compromise morals and ethics.”
Twitch kicked out the oddsmakers and they set up their own casino
There was a period around 2018 when gambling streams were taking off on Twitch.
Considering that video game streaming attracts younger audiences, there was concern that the abundance of gambling content on Twitch might unknowingly lead children towards developing gambling habits.
Some streamers were also entering sponsorship deals with gambling sites, where casinos would provide them with large amounts of money to gamble live on stream.
Tyler Faraz “Trainwreck” Niknam claimed to have earned $360 million in sponsorships. Lengyel stated that he had bet over $500 million in cryptocurrency gambling while on Twitch.
This sends a terrible message to children who may not realize that the money being bet by the streamers was not their own but rather provided by the casino for them to play live in front of the audience.
Now, many creators who specialized in this content have moved to Kick, including both Niknam and Lengyel. The former was even named a non-owner advisor.
In Spain, many streamers like AuronPlay or Ibai have made it clear that they will not leave Twitch for the moment, and certainly not for a site like Kick, which is closely associated with gambling, one of the major issues in our current society.
