Last June, Apple celebrated in style the WWDC24, its developer conference. There, they showcased all the software-related news from the company and, as tradition goes, they introduced iOS 18, the next OS for iPhones. Unfortunately, it won’t be available for all devices.
At Softonic we have already talked extensively about the features that iOS 18 will bring to our iPhones. One of the most popular is undoubtedly Apple Intelligente. It gives us the possibility to “rewrite, review, and summarize text in almost any part of the ecosystem,” as Apple itself explains on its website. Although we have not been able to try it yet, there are other functions that are accessible through the iOS 18 betas, such as iPhone Mirroring and customization controls. However, several older models of iPhone will not get to experience any of these tools.
Specifically, we are referring to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. The main line’s progressive abandonment of the Home button will not include iOS 18. They were also unable to update to iOS 17, so this was to be expected.

We can’t complain. This line of iPhones, first introduced in 2017, has had 7 years of official updates, which is excellent for the mobile world. Fortunately for owners of these iPhones, they will continue to receive security patches for at least a few more years.
So if your iPhone 8, 8 Plus or X is still working smoothly, you won’t have many reasons to change it. In case you want to enjoy all the new features of iOS 18, you will have no choice but to get a more current iPhone, like the iPhone 15.
