Undoubtedly, you remember when Google started recommending its users who asked for a pizza recipe to use glue and screws. That day, many realized that AI didn’t have all the answers. Interestingly, months later, a pizzeria is making a fortune with a pizza designed by an AI.
A chain of pizzerias in Dubai asked ChatGPT to create a combination of ingredients based on the tastes of the city’s population, and it turned out to be a great success. As expected, when it comes to AI and products that aim to go viral.
Dodo Pizza, a very popular chain of restaurants and pizzerias in Dubai, used AI to create the “AI-generated Chicken Shawarma Pizza” and the city’s residents have given their verdict: “it’s delicious.”
Using AI to go viral… and create new recipes
In an interview with BBC, Spartak Arutyunyan, responsible for the menu at Dodo Pizza Dubai, says: “We asked ChatGPT to create a recipe: the best pizza for Dubai. We launched it, it was a great success, and it’s still on the menu.”
Arutyunyan wanted a pizza that represented Dubai’s multicultural demographics, so the pizza blends staple foods from around the world to cater to the population’s tastes. With shawarma chicken, tahini sauce, paneer, onions, tomato sauce, mozzarella, parsley, and Za’atar herbs, it is inspired by the Middle East, India, Europe, and other places.
This is not the first time Dodo Pizza uses AI in its pizza menu. The chain launched an AI flavor generator earlier this year in its Dubai app, with the ability to create up to 30 million possible combinations. The pizza chain plans to expand the generator to more locations in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Africa throughout 2024.
That being said, the success of AI-generated pizza is potentially a fleeting success, as other ChatGPT recipes like strawberries with pasta, or blueberries with cereal for breakfast are probably as bad as they sound.
