Microsoft says preorders for its 25th anniversary Xbox Series X open August 27 at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT, ahead of a November 13 release. It’s a limited-edition 1TB Xbox Series X with a translucent “OG Green” finish that nods to the original Xbox. Earlier reports had suggested it would arrive later in November.
In the US, Microsoft has the console priced at $899, and in Europe it’s €899. Under that green shell, though, you’re still getting a standard 1TB Xbox Series X. There’s no faster chip, no bigger SSD, and no new features. That’s why some of the first reactions put its price next to Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro, even if that machine at least brings an actual performance bump.
Microsoft is also bundling in a matching “OG Green” controller, plus other limited-edition accessories: a keyboard, mouse, earbuds, and mobile controllers.
If you’re after a collector’s piece and that retro look really means something to you, this one will probably be tempting. If what you want is the best value, the regular Xbox Series X is still the smarter buy.
You can preorder the anniversary console directly from Microsoft. The company first showed it off during the Xbox Games Showcase in June, before Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said FanFest attendees with a “fan” badge would get one for free.
