YouTube for iOS adds support for viewing live streams

youtube iconWhile the YouTube app for iOS is great for watching videos uploaded to YouTube, there was no way to watch live streaming videos. That changes today with a minor update to the YouTube app for iOS. iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users can look forward to a new section under “From YouTube” named “Live.” Tapping on that section will reveal all the live streams that are currently going on. There is a search bar up top so you can search for a specific event you want to watch live. This is perfect for viewing live streaming concerts, although Coachella just took place this weekend.

Another minor update to the YouTube app is the ability to create video playlists to send to your TV. While the “send to TV” feature has existed for a while, it could only be used to stream one video at a time. Previously, there was no way to queue up videos to watch, making it a pain to have to choose one video after another.

Unfortunately this update to YouTube for iOS didn’t bring along any live streaming capabilities for the YouTube Capture app. For now, YouTube only supports viewing live streams.
