How bad can Peter Parker’s luck get? Well, if Zendaya and Tom Holland are to be believed, very bad, and in Spider-Man: Brand New Day it’s going to hit rock bottom. No one yet knows exactly what will happen to the Webhead at the end of this fourth installment, but knowing that even his girlfriend and his best friend have forgotten who he is, you have to wonder how far they’re going to let the Wall-Crawler’s merry misadventures turn into a coming-of-age drama.
Spider-tears
In a promotional interview with the pair alongside Jacob Batalon, the third wheel, both promised lots and lots of tears and Zendaya even said she cried several times. “It’s very sad. I don’t know if it’s the best way to sell the movie, but it’s cathartic… And also devastating.” So, if you were expecting the movie to be a whole showdown between Hulk, Punisher, and Spidey, I’m afraid it’s hiding a whole lot more inside.
It isn’t the first time they’ve hinted that the end of the movie is going to split the audience, but never before had they put it so strongly that we were going to end up a blubbering mess. And it probably has to do with the fact that Peter Parker hasn’t forgotten his friends, no matter how much they’re already in a different place in their lives.
There’s not much time left before we find out what the movie has in store, and at this point it’s not worth spoiling it for ourselves, right? Just enjoy a story that, hopefully, reminds us of the Marvel we’ve always known. Fingers crossed.
