Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot looks to be aiming for an early 2027 shoot, ahead of its already announced theatrical release on May 5, 2028. That places the film right in the middle of Marvel’s post-Secret Wars slate, and Kevin Feige is said to be treating it as a clean MCU starting point for mutants, not a full-scale return to the old 20th Century Fox cast.
Sadie Sink is reportedly being lined up for Jean Grey. If that holds, audiences may see her even sooner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in 2026 before she fully shifts into Marvel’s X-Men side of the universe.
Jake Schreier is reportedly set to direct, with Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo on writing duties. The rumored cast around him includes Kit Connor, Maya Boyd, Inde Navarrette, Asa Germann, Samara Weaving, Christopher Abbott, and Adam Driver.
If you’ve been paying attention to Marvel’s long-term setup, this one has a lot riding on it. Ms. Marvel’s mutation reveal, Namor’s backstory in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, plus Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, all seem positioned to help connect the older films to whatever shape this reboot takes.
For now, Marvel’s new X-Men movie is set for theaters on May 5, 2028. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will likely get there first in 2026.
