After a long wait, we finally know the official name of the fighting game developed by Riot. From now on, Project L abandons its denomination to be officially called 2XKO.
It was first announced in 2019, along with other important projects from the company such as Arcane and Legends of Runeterra. However, the studio’s grand plans were thwarted by the crisis in the gaming industry. The company entered 2024 with hundreds of layoffs and the closure of its publishing division, Riot Forge.
The truth is that little was known about 2XKO after its announcement. The first practical demonstration of the title took place during EVO 2023, the most important fighting tournament in the world.
In essence, 2XKO is a two-on-two fighting game. Players form a team of two fighters and each one takes control of one. In battles, each player can enter or exit the fights whenever they consider it.
In addition to the new name, Riot has also revealed the year it will be launched: 2025. For now, the company has promised to show more gameplay of 2XKO during EVO 2024, which will be held in Japan next April.
