Adam Driver’s sci-fi thriller “65” has cracked HBO Max’s U.S. Top 10 after landing on the service in January 2026. At one point, it climbed as high as No. 5.
The movie follows pilot Mills, who crash-lands on Earth 65 million years ago and has to keep the young survivor Koa alive while dinosaurs are everywhere. You don’t need any franchise backstory to jump in, and you don’t need to carve out a huge chunk of time either. It had already shown the same kind of streaming pull on Netflix and Hulu.
And those viral claims making the rounds are wrong. “65” reportedly cost about $45 million, not $1 billion. Its Rotten Tomatoes scores sit at 35% from critics and 64% from audiences, after a disappointing theatrical run that ended with about $32.1 million domestic, $28.6 million international, and roughly $60.7 million worldwide.
Critics argued that Scott Beck and Bryan Woods wasted the Adam Driver-versus-dinosaurs setup with thin characters, a tone that takes itself too seriously, and a script that’s less fun than the premise makes you expect. Still, if you’re in the mood for a tense, straightforward 90-minute action thriller, this one’s easy to try.
