Sony and Insomniac Games have dropped a new cinematic trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, the PlayStation 5 exclusive set to launch on September 15, 2026. There isn’t much gameplay in the footage, but it puts the game back in front of people, confirms that pre-orders are live, and makes the pitch a lot clearer: this is a single-player story-driven action-adventure, not a giant open-world superhero sandbox.
And with pre-orders open now, the timing tells you a lot. Sony has moved past vague teases and into the actual sales push for one of its biggest 2026 releases, especially with Insomniac Games coming off Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The trailer also sharpens the picture of what Marvel’s Wolverine is supposed to be. It looks more like God of War than the usual superhero map-clearing formula, with a tighter structure, set-piece combat, and a heavier focus on story.
Sony’s June 2026 State of Play filled in the rest. In the Earth-1048 version of the story, Logan rejoins Team X to investigate mutants being abducted by Bolivar Trask, and there’s no Spider-Man crossover. That same presentation confirmed Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Omega Red, Mystique, and Sentinels, along with Wolverine’s healing factor, a Rage meter, and a rougher tone with visible gore. Development also had to recover after Insomniac Games’ December 2023 ransomware leak.
If you want a Wolverine game that’s more intense and more focused, this looks like one to watch.
