Among all the news from D23, the Disney convention where the studio has taken the opportunity to showcase all the projects that are coming, there is one that has not gone unnoticed by anyone: the third part of Avatar. James Cameron’s multi-billion dollar franchise has gained strength with the announcement of the title of its next film: Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Dated for December 19, 2025, the movie contrasts with The Shape of Water, the second part, already from its own title. But what does this title actually hide? James Cameron has explained it through Rotten Tomatoes, and it is exactly as we could imagine.
“Hate, violence, trauma, abuse of power”
“Fire can represent hatred, violence, trauma, abuse of power. Ash represents the consequences of all that energy, which is pain and having to live with what you have done“, explains the filmmaker. Taking this into account, it is quite clear that the third installment will be even darker and more violent than the previous two. Apparently, a war is looming that will reach its climax in this third film and, perhaps, culminate completely in the fourth and final installment.
