Since Bohemian Rhapsody became a big hit in 2018, Hollywood has not stopped releasing musical biopics about its most recognized artists. This is the case of Rocketman, Elvis or the upcoming Bob Marley: One Love. Now, another star has joined the bandwagon in a genre that could explode at some point: Amy Winehouse.
The artist who passed away in 2011 will receive an adaptation about her life titled Back to Black. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, known for being the director of 50 Shades of Grey or Nowhere Boy – another biopic, this one about the life of John Lennon – the film will also feature a screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh, who was already behind Nowhere Boy and Control, a film about Ian Curtis, from Joy Division. Below you can watch its trailer:
The biopic of Amy Winehouse arrives: Back to Black
The synopsis of the film about Amy Winehouse states that Back to Black “is an unprecedented look at Amy Winehouse’s early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album. Told from Amy’s perspective, the film is an unflinching look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the relationship that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time.”
In the role of the golden voice singer will be Marisa Abela, a British actress who appears in Barbie and who is exactly 27 years old, the age at which Amy Winehouse died. Alongside her, other actors and actresses from the United Kingdom stand out, such as Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), and Eddie Marsan (The Gentlemen). To see the movie in theaters, you won’t have to wait long, as its release is scheduled for June of this year.
