The anticipation that the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power had could be compared to the premiere of Game of Thrones or The Last of Us, the two great series of our time. The problem is that this series, exclusive to Amazon, ended up sinking and losing the attention of viewers. Despite everything, Amazon is betting on it.
Now, a couple of years after the premiere of the first season, Amazon shows us for the first time the trailer of the second season of The Rings of Power and it seems that everything has changed. With a bit of luck, this new season will be what we always wanted to see.
Season 2 of The Rings of Power: synopsis and release date
Sauron is on the rise in the first trailer for the second season of the Prime Video series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”, which will premiere on August 29, 2024.
Amazon has unveiled today Tuesday the trailer and the premiere date in New York as part of its preliminary presentation to advertisers.
The first glimpse, full of action, focuses on the rise of the fearsome and powerful villain during the Second Age of Middle-earth, when Sauron (Charlie Vickers) disguises himself as an elf to help Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) in the forging of the rings of power.
All kinds of threatening creatures – orcs, creeping vines, a swamp of worms – appear to pollute the land, while many of the characters from the first season prepare for battle, such as Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), and Isildur (Maxim Baldry).
The trailer also includes a brief image of the character known as the Outsider (Daniel Weyman) wielding a wooden staff. In the finale of the first season, it was revealed that he was one of the wizards (also known as Istari) who would later populate Middle-earth.
Although it has not been officially confirmed that the Stranger is a primitive version of Gandalf, the most famous of the wizards of Middle-earth, the series has not denied that impression either.
Other key cameos in “The Lord of the Rings” include Mount Doom, one of the Great Eagles, what could be the Watcher in the Water (or one of its early progenitors) and what appears to be Barad-dûr, Sauron’s central fortress in Mordor.
