Sony has recently faced a sea of criticism for its business decisions, especially the cancellation of the multiplayer mode of The Last of Us, which has disappointed many fans of the franchise who considered the Factions mode a standout feature of the original.
Despite the controversy, the company launched Concord, a hero shooter that failed to resonate in the market, quickly disappearing from public attention.
Will Terminal War fill the void left by the cancellation of The Last of Us multiplayer mode?
In the midst of this negative reaction, Albatross Interactive, an independent self-funded studio, has decided to take the initiative with the announcement of Terminal War, a game that is directly inspired by the canceled multiplayer mode of The Last of Us.
However, the company has been careful in naming it, avoiding any possible legal conflict with Sony, which has proven to be relentless in protecting its intellectual property.
Terminal War maintains the post-apocalyptic aesthetic of Naughty Dog’s title, but focuses on a military conflict instead of the presence of zombies. The game proposes a competitive 4 against 4 confrontation between three distinct factions: the aggressive Federal Faction, the liberal Free States Faction, and the militias of the Rebellion Faction. The gameplay, described as “brutal,” includes both melee and ranged combat, offering an intensely competitive experience.
Although Terminal War has generated interest, its development seems to still be in its early stages, as there is no defined release date, minimum requirements, or confirmed platforms, with its arrival on PC in early access being the only information available so far.
The creators of the game have expressed their determination and have admitted that this project is a response to the cancellation of The Last of Us multiplayer, pointing out how Sony’s business decision can have unexpected repercussions in the video game industry.
