Apple continues to implement Apple Intelligence following its arrival with iOS 18.1, and this time it does so within the App Store itself. Apple’s artificial intelligence will completely change the way we can access and compare information about each application, as we will soon be able to consult an automated summary of all other users’ reviews before deciding whether we want to download an application.
A summary of all reviews of any application
According to what 9to5Mac has discovered, Apple has developed a system that will analyze all the reviews users leave on the App Store. From these, it will generate a summary that reflects the most common comments and ratings about each of the applications.
Summaries will be updated in real time, each time new reviews are added, ensuring that the content is always current. With this information, instead of having to spend time reading dozens of comments, we can quickly assess the performance of an app.
Any anomaly, such as the lack or malfunction of a key function or, on the contrary, any virtue, such as a certain feature being free in a subscription app or the way our information is managed, will be automatically highlighted.
Although 9to5mac has not been able to find out how these summaries will look, it is expected that they will appear on the product page of each application, alongside its description, images, and other data. It is also noteworthy that the processing will be done on Apple’s servers, which indicates that it will not be necessary for devices to generate these summaries locally and, therefore, they will be available globally.
A complete change in the way we investigate an app
Apple’s intention with this change is clear: to make it easier for us to identify applications that may not meet their descriptions. With the summaries generated by Apple Intelligence, we can avoid low-quality or misleading applications by quickly accessing an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of each application.
Apple has also considered developers, of course, because if an automatically generated summary is inaccurate or has any type of error, developers will be able to report it so that Apple can review it and take the necessary measures.
According to what has been discovered by 9to5mac, this feature will only be available in certain countries and regions, although we do not know which ones. It will also apply only to those applications that have a sufficient number of reviews to provide an accurate and balanced perspective. Thus, if when searching for an app we see that the summary is absent, this very fact will already be a point of information about its popularity.
All of this is accompanied by the management of reviews that Apple has been doing since the beginning of the App Store. In 2023 alone, the company processed more than 1.1 billion reviews and removed approximately 152 million that it considered fraudulent. With this, Apple Intelligence will have quality information to provide us with each of the summaries.
Apple Intelligence is proving to be a key tool for our devices, but also for Apple itself. Being able to offer a summary of user opinions on an app so clearly is really interesting. And the prospects don’t end there, as more apps, reviews, and information are likely to go through Apple Intelligence before reaching us. While Mail categorizes messages for us, we are facing great news that, in this specific case, will allow us to better choose which app to download and which to overlook.
