The film just debuted at the Toronto Film Festival, and although its release is still quite a way off (January 5, 2025), many are saying it’s one of the best horror movies in recent years.

The story of Heretic follows Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), two Mormon missionaries who arrive at the house of Mr. Reed (the fantastic Hugh Grant) intending to preach to him. However, what seemed to be a routine visit quickly turns into a terrifying trap that soon ensnares the entire audience.

In the film, Reed, under a facade of kindness, demonstrates a hidden theological and psychological perversion, luring the young women into a sadistic game of manipulation. In one of the most chilling scenes of the trailer, the missionaries are forced to choose between two doors marked as “Belief” and “Disbelief,” a decision that marks the beginning of their descent into horror. Undoubtedly, this is a film that could shape Grant’s future career.
