We knew that the arrival of Apple Intelligence was going to be gradual, but now, in its recent edition of the Power On weekly newsletter, Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple will release its long-awaited image generation features in iOS 18.2, which is scheduled for release later this year. According to Gurman, the first beta version of iOS 18.2 will arrive in October, while the final version is expected in December.
iOS 18.2 and also iOS 18.4 for a complete arrival
This release will include two of the most anticipated features of the Apple Intelligence ecosystem: Image Playground and Genmoji. The first one is a new tool that will allow us to generate images in three different styles: animation, illustration, and sketch.
On the other hand, the Genmoji will offer us the possibility to create custom emojis from quick text prompts, giving us a unique and expressive form of communication that goes beyond standard emojis.
With iOS 18.2, however, Apple Intelligence will not arrive in full. According to Gurman, the integration of ChatGPT with Siri is now expected to arrive by the end of the year, also with the release of iOS 18.2. In addition, the new version of Siri with personal context capability will arrive in iOS 18.4 (not iOS 18.3), scheduled for spring 2025.
However, it is clear that the deployment will be gradual and progressive. Something that Apple already announced during the presentation of Apple Intelligence, but now we have a clearer understanding of the exact release schedule. We will have to be a little patient – although something may be mentioned at today’s Glowtime event – and yet, the wait will undoubtedly be rewarded.
