Images deleted since 2010 were reappearing, causing confusion and concern about what was happening. Now Apple has fixed it.
If there’s one thing Apple is famous for, it’s having one of the best smartphone camera systems in the world. First-class sensors, unbeatable post-processing, and a gallery that never fails… until now.
Apple has released today iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1, minor updates of the operating system updates iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 that were released last September. The 17.5.1 updates come one week after the release of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5.
iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1 can be wirelessly downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads through Settings > General > Software Update.
What does the new and recently arrived iOS 17.5.1 fix
According to Apple’s release notes, the updates include a fix for an issue that could cause images to reappear in the photo library, even after being deleted.
This update provides important bug fixes and resolves a rare issue where photos that were damaged in the database could reappear in the Photos library even if they had been deleted.
There have been several complaints from iPhone and iPad users who saw their old deleted photos reappear after installing the iOS 17.5 update. Deleted images from 2010 were appearing again, causing confusion and concern about what was happening. The information provided today by Apple indicates that it was a database corruption issue, and that iOS 17.5.1 should fix the problem.
