Although The Sandman was not the big success that Netflix expected when it premiered in 2022, the series garnered enough support —and enough insistence from Neil Gaiman— for it to be renewed for a second season. Now, we have finally received a first glimpse of the new episodes, and everything seems to indicate that they will be much more epic than the previous ones.
Alongside the video, Netflix has announced the new characters that will appear in Season 2. These are Esme Creed-Miles as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as The Prodigal. The three are Morpheus’ siblings, and it seems they are here to adapt Sandman: Season of Mists, the fourth comic in the series and one of the most popular story arcs in the fiction.
When does Season 2 of Sandman premiere?
The Sandman: Season of Mists was published between 1990 and 1991 and tells an important episode in the life of Morpheus, the King of Dreams. The story begins with a family gathering of the Endless, full of conflicting personalities, and continues with Morpheus’ journey to Hell. There, Lucifer’s abdication triggers a struggle between gods and supernatural creatures for control of the infernal throne.

The highly anticipated second season of the adaptation features some very striking faces. Patton Oswalt will voice Matthew the Raven, Gwendoline Christie will return as Lucifer, Jenna Coleman will portray Johanna Constantine, Stephen Fry will be Gilbert, and Sanjeev Bhaskar and Asim Chaudhry will bring Cain and Abel to life, among others that we have already seen before and the newly confirmed actors.
The release date of the series has not been announced yet, but filming began in June 2023, just before the start of the actors strike called by the SAG-AFTRA union that lasted for several months. Finally, filming resumed in November 2023, so they are still in post-production of the episodes. We will probably be able to see it by the end of the year.
