The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past hits 900,000 wishlists just a week after Gamescom reveal

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past hits 900,000 wishlists just a week after Gamescom reveal

One week after its Gamescom Opening Night Live reveal, The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past had already passed 900,000 wishlists. It’s a paid expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, currently targeting 2027, and analytics firm Alinea says it was the most wishlisted Steam game shown during the event.

Steam
Steam Download

For an add-on showing up more than a decade after the base game, that’s a very solid start. The reason isn’t hard to see. CD Projekt RED says the Witcher franchise has sold 90 million copies in total, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt alone makes up more than 65 million of those sales. Songs of the Past is also being co-developed by CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Theory, with developers on the project who previously worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

CD Projekt RED says the story leans toward Dandelion this time, digging into his family and his past, while also setting this up as Geralt’s last major adventure before Ciri takes over in the next mainline game. You’ll also get Letten, Dandelion’s homeland, described as an idyllic new open-world region with a darker secret underneath it. Combat gets a new tool too: a silver chain.

If you’re still playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this already looks like an easy one to grab when it arrives. Especially because it requires The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, which CD Projekt RED says adds revamped combat animations, new finishing moves, and a reworked skill tree.

As for the rollout, CD Projekt RED has Songs of the Past lined up for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered comes first on September 29, 2026 as a free upgrade for existing owners on qualifying platforms. If that schedule holds, the order is straightforward: the remaster in 2026, this expansion in 2027, and The Witcher 4: Polaris in 2028.

Until Dawn 2 is still not official: Sony has not confirmed the sequel

Until Dawn 2 is still not official: Sony has not confirmed the sequel

Sony didn’t announce Until Dawn 2 at the recent PlayStation State of Play, despite posts online claiming PlayStation had locked in a sequel for January.

Steam
Steam Download

As of now, there’s still no official reveal, no release date, no trailer, no platform list, and no confirmed developer. The reports going around, including a supposed January 28, 2027 launch, a ghost-hunter plot set on a tropical island, and Firesprite as the studio behind it, haven’t been backed up by Sony, PlayStation Studios, or any official PlayStation channel.

So if you’re waiting for a proper sequel, this still doesn’t count as news.

What Sony has actually confirmed is the Until Dawn remake, which released for PlayStation 5 and PC on October 4, 2024. According to Sony, Ballistic Moon rebuilt Until Dawn in Unreal Engine 5 with some staff from the 2015 original involved. The core story stayed in place, but the remake added a third-person camera, stronger visuals, new lighting and environmental detail, a score by Mark Korven, reworked narrative beats, and a new prologue centered on the Washington family, while keeping the original voice performances.

In other words, the remake feels closer to a careful rebuild than a major overhaul.

That version is already out on PlayStation 5 and PC. Meanwhile, the broader franchise is still moving through Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, The Inpatient, The Quarry, The Dark Pictures Anthology, Supermassive Games’ The Casting of Frank Stone and Directive 8020, plus an Until Dawn film adaptation.

Sony and Microsoft now say no gamer refunds: even after tariff refunds

Sony and Microsoft now say no gamer refunds: even after tariff refunds

Sony and Microsoft are telling U.S. courts that if you paid more for a PlayStation or Xbox in 2025, you shouldn’t expect any of that money back, even if the companies later get tariff refunds from the U.S. government.

That position comes after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that found some tariffs illegal, which opened the door for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to seek refunds from the government. At the same time, separate consumer lawsuits accuse the companies of double-dipping. In their court filings, Sony and Microsoft argue that buyers willingly paid the listed market price, received the product they paid for, and didn’t suffer any legally recognized harm or unfair treatment.

And that argument could matter well beyond game consoles. It may help shape future disputes over price increases tied to policy changes, import duties, and supply-chain shocks. The console price jumps were real. Research cited in the cases says the Xbox Series X climbed from its $500 launch price to about $800 for a 1TB model.

Sony pointed to a difficult economic climate, while Microsoft blamed market conditions and rising development costs. Consumers see it differently in these suits. They argue that tariff pressure still played a role in pushing those prices higher, so if you bought a console during that period, this is a case to watch.

If you want to follow the fight, the U.S. court filings lay it out. Sony told investors in July that it expects roughly $508 million in U.S. tariff refunds, most of that tied to PlayStation. Microsoft hasn’t disclosed that same level of detail. Nintendo is facing its own lawsuit. Some companies, including FedEx and UPS, say they would reimburse customers who directly absorbed tariff costs. And if looming U.S. semiconductor tariffs move ahead, electronics prices could rise again.

The Twilight Zone’s ‘Living Doll’ is still worth watching today

The Twilight Zone’s ‘Living Doll’ is still worth watching today

The Twilight Zone episode “Living Doll,” from season 5, first aired on November 1, 1963, and it brought one of Rod Serling’s nastiest, most lasting horror stories to television: a cheerful little talking doll named Talky Tina starts making threats against the family that brings her home.

In “Living Doll,” Telly Savalas plays the abusive stepfather Erich Streator, while young Christie receives Talky Tina as a gift. The hook lands fast. It begins with the doll’s sugary, child-friendly patter, then turns into the line that makes the whole episode stick in your head: “I’m going to kill you.” It still holds up, mostly because the real source of horror isn’t the doll by itself. It’s Erich Streator’s cruelty toward Christie and Annabelle, the psychological abuse, and the kind of broken home the episode gets painfully, uncomfortably right.

The on-screen teleplay credit belongs to Charles Beaumont, though Jerry Sohl later said he ghostwrote the script during Beaumont’s neurological decline. Talky Tina drew clear inspiration from Mattel’s Chatty Cathy, and June Foray voiced Talky Tina just as she had voiced the actual Chatty Cathy doll. Then there’s Bernard Herrmann’s score, already famous from Psycho, which turns an ordinary suburban setting into a place that feels tense all the time.

If you’re going back to classic TV horror, “Living Doll” is an easy one to seek out. It helped set the template for killer or sentient toy horror, from Child’s Play and Chucky to later Simpsons parodies. It also still opens itself up to readings about patriarchy, childhood trauma, and gendered power. And Jordan Peele has said in interviews that it scared him badly when he was a kid.

You can stream or buy The Twilight Zone on the major digital TV platforms.

Legends of Aria Eternal arrives on Steam September 10: a reset built on player-run servers

Legends of Aria Eternal arrives on Steam September 10: a reset built on player-run servers

Legends of Aria Eternal hits Steam on September 10. Emergent Worlds says that launch should put the long-running sandbox MMORPG in front of a much bigger audience, coming right after a recent playtest that was limited to backers.

Steam
Steam Download

The big hook this time is the server model. There isn’t one official live-service world for everyone to funnel into. Players and communities can host their own worlds, change the rulesets, and even set up monetization how they want, while Emergent Worlds supports a volunteer-run “Unofficial Official Server” as a shared hub. The studio is also presenting Legends of Aria Eternal as a return to the original 2014 Shards Online Kickstarter vision, following the Legends of Aria rebrand, later design changes, and that abandoned blockchain and NFT detour. It’s buy-to-play, with no subscription and no microtransactions in the base game, and it adds crafting-driven top gear, skill-based progression, mounted combat, and faster skill gains.

If you’re into sandbox MMOs, this may be one to grab when it arrives. Still, with a history this tangled, the mood around it will probably stay cautiously optimistic for now, and a lot of players are going to judge it on whether this latest reset finally sticks. You’ll be able to get Legends of Aria Eternal on Steam starting September 10.

PlayStation State of Play returns September 3: Japan-focused show follows main broadcast

Sony has locked in the next PlayStation State of Play for Thursday, September 3. The usual State of Play presentation will run first, and State of Play Japan will start right after it. Sony says the show will include updates from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners, with the main presentation ending on a longer look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation. After that, State of Play Japan will turn the focus to developers in Japan and across Asia, giving those games a little more breathing room than they’d normally get in a regular State of Play.

PlayStation App
PlayStation App Download

If you keep up with PS5 news or RPGs, this is probably one to watch. Just don’t go in expecting a full PlayStation Showcase. State of Play streams are usually smaller, even when rumors start flying, the August Phantom Blade Zero broadcast is still fresh in people’s minds, and fans are talking themselves into seeing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

And the reaction probably won’t stop at the trailers. The event lands while Sony is catching heat over what looks like a move away from physical discs, along with the usual worries that come with that: ownership, preservation, resale, and the chance of online protests around the show itself. Some analysts still think a digital-first strategy won’t really shift course, but the argument isn’t going away.

You can watch the broadcast on PlayStation’s official channels on September 3.

GTA 6 dog poop weapon rumor isn’t confirmed: don’t treat it as fact

GTA 6 dog poop weapon rumor isn’t confirmed: don’t treat it as fact

Right now, Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed the rumored bagged dog poop weapon in GTA 6, even if it does sound exactly like the kind of joke Rockstar would slip into one of its games.

Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto V Download

The rumor says an NPC drops a bag of dog waste, you pick it up, and throw it. Funny idea, sure. But Rockstar’s trailers, along with the weapon and leak breakdowns people keep citing, show guns, melee weapons, and other gear, not dog poop. So this looks a lot more like a rumor the GTA 6 hype machine latched onto and boosted.

The story seems to lead back to YouTuber TGG, through an Extended Look breakdown and a visit to Rockstar North, and then it really took off after GameRoll highlighted it. If you’re looking for verified GTA 6 details, this isn’t something you should treat as fact.

What feels more believable is a world that’s more reactive, closer to Red Dead Redemption 2, with reported systems like limited weapon carrying, trunk storage, refueling, Jason and Lucia changing based on diet and exercise, a possible relationship or honor-style system, civilians who call police and remember what suspects were wearing, and smarter police AI. The August 2026 Cyberleek leak wave, which showed chases, robberies, and open-world exploration and was later confirmed by Rockstar Games to be real and described by Rockstar as disappointing, also helps explain why rumors spread this fast. If you want confirmation, stick to Rockstar Games’ official material.

Prime Video greenlights Stephen King’s Crouch End: six-part series

Prime Video greenlights Stephen King’s Crouch End: six-part series

Prime Video has given Crouch End the greenlight, ordering a six-episode limited series based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name. It’s one more high-profile King adaptation headed to streaming.

At the center of Crouch End is Doris Freeman, a globally famous movie star, recounting to a London police inspector how her husband disappeared, and how the events surrounding it kept getting stranger. The series is being framed as a character-driven crime thriller with a supernatural mystery at its core, with a clear Lovecraftian streak running through it.

The limited series also builds on one of King’s more underrated cosmic-horror stories. It first appeared in New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos and was later collected in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. Paul Tomalin (Bodies, Torchwood) is writing, Tom Shankland (House of Guinness, The Serpent) is directing, and Mammoth Screen and Fifth Season are producing. With its North London setting, Crouch End will also be the first Stephen King adaptation produced in the U.K.

If you go to Prime Video for horror and want something stranger than a standard haunted-house setup, Crouch End has a lot going for it. And it’s arriving in the middle of a broader Stephen King surge, with Prime Video’s Carrie, MGM+’s The Institute, and HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry already showing how big that wave has gotten.

Casting is underway, but Crouch End still doesn’t have a confirmed cast, release date, or budget. Once the series is ready, it’ll be available to watch on Prime Video.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 looks huge: 84.9GB listed ahead of launch

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 looks huge: 84.9GB listed ahead of launch

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, ahead of its October 23, 2026 launch. According to the Nintendo eShop listing, the game will take up an estimated 84.9 GB.

That’s massive for a Nintendo release, even if it still comes in under the 100 GB-plus installs some Call of Duty games hit on other platforms. It also clears up why the physical Nintendo Switch 2 version is a code in a box: 64 GB game cards max out at 64 GB, so the full game just doesn’t fit.

You’ll also get a chance to jump in early. A free open beta starts Friday, August 28, and Activision says that download comes in at 38.7 GB. It includes slices of the campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone, along with temporary Vault Edition content. For Nintendo players, there’s another reason this stands out. It’s the first Call of Duty to land on a Nintendo system in 13 years, since Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U.

And if you’ve been holding off to see whether the Nintendo version would actually match the others, this one looks promising. Microsoft’s 2023 10-year agreement with Nintendo promised full feature parity, the Switch 2 version supports gyro controls, and early previews say multiplayer is aiming for, and mostly maintaining, 60 fps while the campaign runs at 30 fps.

You can download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 from the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch 2, or pick it up on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement now targets 2027

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement now targets 2027

505 Games and ArtPlay have pushed Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, the prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, to 2027. The reason they gave is straightforward: the team wants more time to refine the game before it launches.

In a video message, Koji Igarashi said Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement has already reached the final stages of production. If you’ve been waiting for it, that makes this feel like the kind of delay tied to polish, balance passes, and general quality cleanup, not a project going back to square one. That distinction matters, especially with the series already having some momentum behind it. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night had sold 1 million copies by June 2020 and 2 million by September 2023, both milestones 505 Games and ArtPlay had previously announced.

Since it’s a prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is also aiming bigger in a few obvious ways. It adds two new protagonists, Leo and Alex, and uses a setup that lets you control both characters at the same time. ArtPlay is also promising the biggest map in the series so far, a day-and-night cycle, and a broader set of systems overall, including a stronger story focus, deeper character development, and a new class system.

There’s also more weight behind this delay than a simple schedule change. It comes after the February 2026 death of creative director Shutaro Ida. Fans have mostly responded with understanding, and ArtPlay says it’s still committed to finishing Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement in a way that honors Ida’s vision. When it does arrive, it’ll be stepping into a crowded Metroidvania field that already includes Hollow Knight: Silksong.

You can’t download Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement yet, and the game is now set for a 2027 release.
