For 2026, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and Perplexity all land on the same answer first: customer service. In their rankings, it’s the job most likely to be replaced by workplace software, ahead of clerical, legal, and accounting work.
The numbers make that pretty easy to understand. Gartner and Forrester say software-agent use climbed from 39% in 2025 to 66% in 2026. These tools could handle 80% of issues by 2029. Gartner pegs the labor savings for 2026 at $80 billion, and Forrester says nearly half of these jobs could disappear by 2030, even if some companies end up hiring back similar roles by 2027.
Repetitive office work looks exposed too. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects data-entry jobs will drop 25.9% from 2024 to 2034, while bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerk roles fall 6%. Other forecasts say 44% of legal tasks could be automated, and that spending on accounting software could jump from $6.68 billion in 2025 to $37.6 billion by 2030.
If your job is predictable and rules-based, take it as a warning sign. What still matters more on the human side is empathy, judgment, strategy, and complicated problem-solving. “Bot unblocker” roles are starting to show up too.
If you want the latest figures, the reports to watch are Gartner, Forrester, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the World Economic Forum. The WEF says automation may displace 85 million jobs and create 97 million.
