We act like we’re new here. After nearly 20 years of the Marvel Universe, there are still people who believe that heroes who disappear stay disappeared, deaths are forever, and villains remain buried until they’re needed again. Of course not: Kevin Feige and his lot see the MCU as a comic-book collection that, once it’s finished, will inevitably build toward crossovers. It’s, of course, what’s going to happen with Daredevil: Born Again.
First attack, then defend
Although Marvel insist that the plan was always to do three seasons and end there, as if it were a limited comic-book series, the truth is that Charlie Cox and the rest of the Heroes for Hire are already hinting at something else: that there’ll be more Daredevil after this series. Asked about a possible movie, Cox answered “Maybe this opens the door. We’ll see”.
For now, in season 3 we’ll get a full-on reunion with the Defenders: Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist. And sure enough, Finn Jones, who plays the latter, thinks there could be more. “Daredevil is a great series, and it’s been going for 6 seasons, but ending it could lead to a different kind of series, maybe with all of us in it. That’s possible, and we’ll see if the fans want it”. Even though the last version of The Defenders on Netflix was what it was, I can assure you they want it.
And how do we show Disney that we want more? Well, as you can probably guess, there’s only one way: “The fans have to watch it; it depends on the viewership, if the eyeballs are there, the stories will get told. Personally, I’d love to see Heroes for Hire. I’ll just put that out there”. Hey, who knows. Stranger things have happened.
