DC Studios has just taken a big step in its new phase by confirming the two main actors who will lead Lanterns, the highly anticipated HBO series based on the Green Lantern universe. Aaron Pierre, known for his work in Rebel Ridge and The Underground Railroad, has been chosen to play John Stewart, while Kyle Chandler will portray Hal Jordan, the most iconic Green Lantern.

Pierre, who previously participated in the Krypton series as Dev-Em, prevailed over other candidates, including rumors that pointed to Stephan James as the favorite. Gunn highlighted that this signing could have repercussions beyond Lanterns, suggesting the possibility that Pierre might reprise his role in future DC Universe projects.
The Most Anticipated Series from DC Studios
Lanterns is described as a dark thriller with a realistic approach in the style of True Detective, and will follow the Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a murder on Earth. This mystery will take them to the heart of the United States, in a plot that promises to explore the challenges Stewart faces as a young Green Lantern guided by Jordan’s experience.
With Damon Lindelof as showrunner and Chris Mundy, from Ozark, on the executive producers team, Lanterns boasts a high-level creative team. Additionally, it will likely make room for the other Green Lantern we will see with Superman: Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner. The production of Lanterns will begin next year, with a possible release in 2026, marking the start of a new era for DC Studios and its ambitious film and television projects.
