Wizards of the Coast has surprised Magic: The Gathering fans with the release of an unexpected Secret Lair drop inspired by Deadpool, the iconic hero from Marvel Comics. This limited collection, which has just been announced, consists of five cards, four of which are reprints with Deadpool-themed art and text, while the fifth is a unique creature card specifically designed for the Merc With A Mouth.
A collaboration with Marvel that keeps yielding results
The Deadpool drop aligns with the ongoing collaborations between Marvel and Magic: The Gathering, which have previously brought characters like Captain America, Wolverine, Black Panther, Storm, and Iron Man to the game. Players cannot overlook Deadpool’s distinctive style, as he addresses players in a fourth-wall-breaking tone in the new cards, providing a humorous and authentic touch that fans of the character will appreciate.
Among the cards included in this new drop are reprints of beloved cards, each with new artwork that captures the essence of Deadpool. Additionally, the inclusion of a mechanically unique card for Deadpool marks a milestone, being the first of its kind since the drop that introduced Lara Croft, Tomb Raider in 2024.
Interested parties can purchase the Deadpool Secret Lair on the Secret Lair website. Additionally, it has been confirmed that Spider-Man will receive a complete standard set in September, which will include booster packs and Welcome Decks, further expanding the universe of Magic: The Gathering and its fusion with the legacy of Marvel.
