In this movie, as we have seen in the trailer, the two protagonists face a new villain for the MCU but it seems like she is going to make a lot of noise. It’s Cassandra Nova, a telepath with unparalleled power portrayed by Emma Corrin in the movie. She is a villain from the X-Men created in 2001 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, but why is she so powerful?
Evil Twin Sister of Charles Xavier
What makes Cassandra Nova so unique is her origin and powers. In the comics, Nova is introduced as the (evil) twin sister of Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men. However, her birth was traumatic. While Xavier was born with benign telepathic powers and a sense of morality, Cassandra emerged as an entity of pure evil. From her conception in the womb, Cassandra sought to end the life of her brother and everything he represented. So, the hatred goes way back.
Cassandra Nova’s abilities are as impressive and terrifying as Xavier’s. Being a powerful telepath, she has the ability to read and control minds, as well as to project illusions and manipulate reality at will. Additionally, she has a body composed of nanomachines, which grants her rapid regeneration and the ability to regenerate even after being completely physically destroyed.
Throughout its history, Cassandra Nova has proven to be a formidable threat to the X-Men and the world in general. Her agenda is often marked by destruction and manipulation, whether by sowing chaos among mutants or unleashing conflicts on a global scale.
One of the most prominent story arcs in which Cassandra Nova played a crucial role was in E is for Extinction, where she attempted to eradicate the mutant race through a devastating attack on the island of Genosha, causing the death of millions of mutants. You may recognize it from X-Men 97′.
His relationship with his brother, Charles Xavier, adds an additional layer of complexity to his character.
