The Dune universe is so vast that not even the adaptations of Denis Villeneuve (who is currently preparing the third part of Paul Atreides’ story), are capable of encompassing the entire universe created by Frank Herbert. Starring Emily Watson, Travis Fimmel, and Mark Strong, the series is set 10,000 years before the events of the original movie, following the sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen in their fight against the forces that threaten the future of humanity and in the creation of the legendary sect known as the Bene Gesserit. Undoubtedly, the premise of the series is spectacular, but is it worth watching?
Game of Thrones in Space
Despite having only aired one episode, we can say loud and clear that the series is a delight for all fans of Dune… but with some notes. While the series brings back the political intrigues and the incredible aesthetics of Villeneuve’s universe, its tone is quite different. Instead of having big action moments, it is a series much more similar to Game of Thrones—that is, with much more dialogue and politics than anything else.

The reviews of the first episodes have been mixed, but many recommend continuing to watch it for what will happen later. Certainly, it is a very bold series that dares to step away from the spectacular tone of the movies. But it is worth giving a vote of confidence for the great plot twists and storytelling behind it.
