EA Sports has laid out its Ultimate Team plans for EA Sports FC 27 before launch, and the pitch is pretty clear: this mode needs a reset. The company said EA Sports FC 26 got off to a strong start, then saw core player sentiment turn in a noticeable way.
From the developers’ side, the loudest complaints were familiar ones: weekly content started to feel repetitive, gameplay and responsiveness had issues, AI and servers frustrated people, and the power curve moved so fast that even high-end older cards lost value too quickly. That turned Ultimate Team into more of a grind, fed the pay-to-win criticism, and showed up alongside lower Twitch viewership and lower average daily PC player numbers.
EA Sports also admitted it “didn’t deliver” on communication. So for FC 27, the fix has two parts: make gameplay and content better, and do a better job explaining what’s changing, responding to feedback, and keeping players informed across the season.
The new additions EA Sports has mentioned include FUT Gallery, with card grading, signed special items, and set rewards. There’s also a points-based revamp for Squad Building Challenges, more tradeable rewards, slower promos that show up less often, more manual defending, and new attacking animations.
If you play Ultimate Team all the time, this is the kind of update list you’ll probably want to watch closely. Even so, the mood around it still feels more cautiously optimistic than fully sold.
EA Sports FC 27 isn’t out yet, so the real test will have to wait for the full release, when players can see for themselves whether those promises actually hold up.
