EA Sports has confirmed the return of EA Sports Fight Night. This is its boxing franchise, which up to now has had five installments, the last of them dating back to 2011, which replaced EA’s previous boxing franchise: Knockout Kings. Since then EA has moved away from boxing, though not from combat sports, focusing on one of its flagship franchises: EA Sports UFC.
Boxing is back in a big way
From 2004 to 2011, Fight Night was a highly regarded EA Sports franchise, even if it could never compete in terms of sales with the company’s main franchises. The two most beloved entries in the series were the last two, Fight Night 4 and Fight Night Champion, considered by critics not only the epitome of Fight Night, but genuine masterpieces of boxing games, still unsurpassed today.
Although the announcement has been made only through a poster on the official X account, the social network formerly known as Twitter, it leaves no room for doubt. With its poster saying they’re “coming back to the ring” and that “the fight never ends”, they imply that Fight Night is coming back for a sixth round. Whether it has what it takes to be champion again more than 15 years later remains to be seen, but its fans can only celebrate.
