I don’t think there’s a single millennial who, no matter how much they deny it, wasn’t hooked on Glee in its first season. It had everything: good-looking people, teenage romances, crazy characters, and bangers, one after another, which filled one album after another. It was such a big deal that quite a lot of people kept asking for its return… until it’s finally happening. Don’t stop believing.
My life would suck without you
Disney+ and Hulu have confirmed that there will be a season 7 of Glee, although it hasn’t been specified whether it will be a reboot with new characters or will feature the original cast now as adults. For now, Ryan Murphy has already confirmed that he’s written the script for the entire season and that the original cast has definitely been told, so, even if only in episodic appearances, we’ll have them back again ready to give it their all.
For now little else is known, beyond the fact that it joins other legacy sequels like Punky Brewster, Full House, Malcolm in the Middle or Scrubs, something that, done well, has been shown to draw in enough nostalgic viewers to make it a sure success. For now, it’s time to listen to all of Glee’s albums again on Spotify, something that, believe it or not, millions of people still do every month.
Frankly, I hope it has the meta and cheeky humor of its first episodes and not so much the messes they got themselves into toward the end of the series, even though, inevitably, it’s going to have a sad backdrop after the deaths of Cory Monteith, Mark Salling and Naya Rivera over the years. They’ll be singing from somewhere else.
