Matthew LaBrot, a former Tesla manager, was recently dismissed after raising alarms about CEO Elon Musk’s impact on the company’s success.
In an interview, LaBrot revealed the struggles within Tesla, highlighting concerns that Musk’s behavior and public persona could be jeopardizing the automaker’s future.
His remarks came after leading an initiative that included an open letter calling for Musk’s resignation, which he believes is essential for the company’s recovery.

LaBrot, who spent five years at Tesla, noted that the damage to Musk’s personal brand has become a liability for the company.
“We are now at a crossroads: continue with Elon as CEO and face further decline as customers abandon the brand, or move forward without him and allow our products and mission to succeed or fail on their own,” he stated.
Despite his admiration for Musk’s long-term vision surrounding autonomous driving and robotics, LaBrot criticized the current state of sales, which he argues is symptomatic of deeper issues rather than merely a product change.
He specifically addressed Tesla’s declining sales numbers, attributing them to a lack of consumer support tied to Musk’s controversial statements on social media. “It’s game over for vehicle sales,” LaBrot emphasized, citing the current trend as ultimately leading to unprofitability for Tesla unless significant changes in leadership arise.
LaBrot also shared advice for current Tesla employees, suggesting that they remain employed while being realistic about the company’s circumstances: “Collect your paycheck if you want, ride this thing down to the grave… but this is not going to get better with that guy in charge.” His remarks provide a rare insider perspective on the challenges facing Tesla as it navigates its identity under Musk’s leadership.
