Escape From Playtime, the new Poppy Playtime spin-off, hit Steam Early Access on October 21, 2026, per its Steam page. This time Mob Entertainment isn’t bringing back the old Project: Playtime PvP setup. It’s going with 2-8 player co-op extraction horror instead, set inside the same Poppy Playtime world.
Right now, the Early Access version includes eight playable Smiling Critters, one starter zone, and AI enemies. The Steam page also says the game is expected to stay in Early Access for about a year. Mob Entertainment adds that the player count was bumped up from 1-4 to 2-8 after feedback from the open beta.
The first month of updates is supposed to bring a new item, new emotes, and a Candy Cat update. One change is already in: the Sketch-A-Map item, added after beta players said getting around was too confusing.
So far, the response on Steam is mixed. The game sits at 61% positive from 914 user reviews, and SteamDB lists a peak concurrent player count of 3,534. People seem to like the frantic co-op play, the procedural variety, and the closer ties to Poppy Playtime lore. The complaints are pretty consistent too: rough controls, bugs, repetitive runs, confusing maps, no public matchmaking, and solo play that doesn’t hold up very well.
If you’re after a Poppy Playtime spin-off built around playing with a group, this is probably worth a look, as long as you can live with some rough edges. It’s available now on Steam in Early Access.
