Classic sitcoms like Everybody Loves Raymond and The Golden Girls still draw huge streaming and broadcast audiences, and in plenty of cases they’re beating newer shows. Everybody Loves Raymond’s 30th Anniversary Reunion pulled in 6.32 million viewers, making it the biggest primetime entertainment special of the season. The original Everybody Loves Raymond series also remains one of Paramount+’s most-streamed titles in the U.S. After Betty White died, viewers went back to The Golden Girls in force too, streaming all 180 episodes for 384 million minutes on Hulu in a single week, according to Nielsen. That was enough to push the show onto Nielsen’s Top 10 acquired list.
If you use streaming for comfort viewing, these older comedies still hold up. Nostalgia helps, sure, but so do predictability, character-driven humor, and the fact that they’re easy to rewatch. That mix keeps them popular with baby boomers, Gen X, millennials, and younger viewers. Networks know it, which is why they keep coming back with reunions, anniversary specials, and reboots, even if most of the reporting still stays narrowly fixed on U.S. sitcoms and age-based audience splits.
You can watch Everybody Loves Raymond on Paramount+ in the U.S. and The Golden Girls on Hulu.
