Although when we talk about collaborations in video games we think of Fortnite, the truth is that Call of Duty has been doing an excellent job of integrating other IPs into their games for years. It’s not even surprising anymore. If once it seemed strange to play with or against Snoop Dogg as an operator to celebrate 4/20, now it’s an annual occurrence that doesn’t surprise anyone. That’s why, when it was announced that they were going to collaborate with WWE, it didn’t seem so strange either.
The entire Season 5 of Call of Duty revolves around wrestling, so it shouldn’t surprise us that a handful of WWE superstars will appear as operators. Having already confirmed Rhea Ripley in the past, they have now confirmed that we will also be able to play as the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, and as one of the most beloved wrestlers in the world, Rey Mysterio. In addition, within the franchise’s own mythology, Ivan Alexxeve, Makarov’s former ally, will arrive, as well as a mysterious new operator known only as Reckoner.
Among the new weapons, which we hope are not brought from WWE, we can find the Static-HV, the STG44, the Spear, and the Torque 35. The Static HV is a compact SMG with rapid fire that is perfect for short distances. The STG44 is an assault rifle with exceptional damage and recoil that will help you in your medium-distance battles. The Spear is, well, a spear, perfect for close combat and throwing. And the Torque 35 is a compound bow whose only necessary explanation is that it’s always really cool to finish off your opponents with a bow.
Another novelty is that we have a new map. Or to be exact, an old map is coming back. Because Meat, a map that already appeared in the first season, returns to become one of the permanent maps in the rotation. Located in the Port of Oakland, its narrow streets and small size make it ideal for those looking for a more immediate experience, based on close combat and short distances.
To finish, this fifth season also includes two new modes: the Frontline mode and the Battle Royale: Practice Zone. The first one is a 6v6 team deathmatch with time limit, where the team that accumulates the most points before time runs out wins. The second one is a practice space with the Rebirth Island map, where you can try different strategies without players being able to harm each other. A perfect opportunity to polish your skills and get hooked on everything Call of Duty has to offer.
