Fast & Furious is a franchise that undoubtedly divides the audience. Positioned as a popcorn entertainment spectacle in the style of Transformers, it aims to maximize box office revenue, which doesn’t always sit well with critics. Now, Fast X is about to be released, and the ratings from the critic aggregator for this tenth installment have already come out. Fast X has premiered on Rotten Tomatoes with a 57% positive review rating. This means that it barely passes, and it falls short compared to other installments like Fast & Furious 6 (71%), Fast Five (78%), or Furious 7 (81%). However, it is nearly on par with the ninth installment, which received a 59%, and it surpasses the original 2009 film, which only reached 29%.
Nevertheless, Fast X is the worst-rated film in the franchise since the fourth installment, which also received a 29%. From the fifth film onwards, the formula started to improve, and the ratings began to rise. However, it seems that Fast X has been a new downturn for the franchise. It is far from being a critical failure like the early films, but it also fails to reach the pinnacle of the saga, which appears to lie between the fifth and seventh installments.
Despite its rating, the film has received very positive comments, particularly praising Jason Momoa’s performance as Dante, who has been compared to the likes of the Joker or Thanos of Fast & Furious. We will see how the audience reacts, but it seems that there is potential.
