Finally! One of Netflix‘s most popular and steamy series is returning for the last time to our screens. While there had been speculation about Sex Education featuring a new cast and different storylines, nothing could be further from the truth. The streaming platform has finally confirmed that we will have a fourth and final season premiering on September 21.
Sex Education creator, Laurie Nunn, expressed her gratitude towards the writing team, the cast, and the entire production crew in a public letter. Nunn highlighted the tremendous work and dedication that went into each episode and assured that they are “eager” to share them with the audience. Despite being the final season, Nunn also leaves the door open to telling stories about other students from Moordale, stating that there is always potential to further explore this world.
Sex Education will once again feature Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey), and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), the beloved trio that leads the series. We will also see other cherished characters such as Otis’ mother and sex therapist, Jean (Gillian Anderson), Aimee (Aimee-Lou Wood), Adam (Connor Swindells), and many more.
After the closure of Moordale High, Otis and Eric find themselves in a new school, Cavendish Sixth Form. Although beginnings are always tough, this place appears to be much friendlier and open-minded (in every sense). In fact, Otis will discover that he’s not the only one who fancies himself as a sexual therapist among his peers. In the teaser, we see Otis introducing himself to his new classmates, emphasizing that he “thinks about sex all day.” On the other hand, Maeve is in the United States fully immersed in her college life.
In this season, we will also see Jean going through a quite complicated phase as she embraces her newfound singleness and adjusts to being a mother. Additionally, Adam continues to navigate his relationship with his father, and we will also get to know the lives of other characters, such as Cal.
However, there will also be some departures. Faces like Ola (Patricia Allison), Lily (Rakhee Thakrar), and Olivia (Simone Ashley) bid farewell to the series, and we won’t be seeing them in the upcoming season.
Despite their absence, we will also be introduced to new characters. Among them are Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Thaddea Graham (Doctor Who), Lisa McGrillis (Somewhere Boy), Jodie Turner Smith (The Last Ship), and Marie Reuther (Kamikaze).
