The First Berserker: Khazan, a soulslike game developed by Neople, has stood out in the genre since its release in 2025, although its sales have fallen short of expectations.
Despite being well received by critics and players as one of the best proposals of the year, the lack of sustained interest in the community has led Nexon, the parent company of Neople, to reassign a large part of the development team to other projects.
Nexon restructures the Khazan team; the future of DLC is now up in the air
According to an internal statement from the Nexon management, almost 100 people from the Khazan team, after completing the final phases of the game, have been reassigned to a new unit called ‘R Team’.
This decision greatly influences the plans for future DLCs and ports to bring the game to new platforms, which are now up in the air. Although it is anticipated that the title may receive minor patches, no major updates are expected.
In an unexpected turn, and despite modest sales, Nexon has classified Khazan as a “strategic success.” The company has highlighted that, thanks to this title, interest in the Dungeon & Fighter franchise has been rekindled, which has generated significant revenue in Asia.
In fact, Nexon has two projects in development: Project OVERKILL and Dungeon&Fighter: ARAD, scheduled for 2027, where the recently reassigned staff will likely work.
Nexon’s future plans do not seem to have a clear horizon regarding Khazan, and their analysis suggests that the momentum of this title will be used in new projects to maintain interest in the Dungeon & Fighter brand. As the industry continues to evolve, the impact of Khazan on the soulslike gaming landscape will be of great interest to genre fans and the community at large.
