Google Calculator just got a new icon. It brings the app into Google’s gradient-heavy 2026 design language, and it was one of the last Google apps still hanging onto the older flat look. The redesign trades that flatter style for softer gradients and rounder shapes, so Google Calculator now lines up with Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Photos, Maps, and the rest of Google’s refreshed app lineup. On your home screen, the whole set looks more consistent.
There still doesn’t seem to be any major new Google Calculator features here. This is mostly a visual update. Even so, it says a lot about the direction Google is taking, moving farther away from flatter Material Design and leaning more into blended colors, softer edges, and icons that don’t rely on such rigid blocks of color. That bigger shift matches Google’s Gemini-era branding, pushes the apps toward a more premium look, and should make them easier to tell apart after users kept pointing out that too many of the older Google icons looked almost the same at a glance.
If you care about Google’s apps looking like they actually belong together, this Google Calculator update is an easy one to pick up, even if people are still split on these shinier icons and Pixel Camera 11 still seems to be a few weeks away from a wider release.
