Google Translate may be working on a new Android home screen widget called Live Translate. Clues buried in the latest app files point to a one-tap shortcut for real-time audio translation.
Those files aren’t an official Google announcement, and anything found there could still change before release. Still, the version shown in the app points to a widget that would let you jump straight into a listening session from your home screen, without opening the app first and digging through different modes.
If Google ships it in its current form, it could make quick in-person translation a lot easier when you’re asking for directions, checking into a hotel, or trying to get through a short conversation in another language.
The early app clues also hint at a few built-in controls: muting the mic, stopping the session, and choosing whether translated audio comes through your speaker or your earpiece.
Right now, based on what’s visible in the files, this seems closer to one-way listening than a full two-way conversation mode. Google may also be testing background support, which would keep translations running after you close the main interface.
Google added other Google Translate widgets in March 2026, and if you use Translate often, this one looks like a useful addition , even with the usual limits around speed, nuance, and privacy.
Google Translate is available for Android on the Play Store, but this widget is still in development.
