If we ask you on which consoles you think GTA 6 will finally be released, the answer will probably be PS5 (and all those released afterward), PC, and Xbox Series X/S (and their possible successors). However, sometimes it seems we forget about Nintendo, and that’s always a mistake. Although GTA 5 hasn’t appeared on Switch (some modders managed to get it running on the console, but with hiccups), we can’t forget that there’s a new system just around the corner.
We need to make a switch
Strauss Zelnick, Rockstar’s CEO, met with investors the other day and was asked if Switch 2 would be a more viable platform for Rockstar games. His response, frankly, is surprising: “We do not tend to comment on the decisions of companies that make hardware, except to say that successful platforms benefit the business, and we support successful platforms. We are happy to do so.”
Moreover, right after, it states that we cannot leave out the Switch 2. Could there be a surprise? Are Nintendo fans going to be able to enjoy GTA 6… or will it be just another port of the fifth part? After all, although the latest GTA games haven’t appeared on Nintendo, Red Dead Redemption and Borderlands, other games from Rockstar and Take Two, have. Why shouldn’t we have the natural evolution?
For that, we have to wait for Nintendo to decide it’s the right time to present the device, after months of playing tug-of-war. The last thing we heard is that it would be fully backward compatible and, in fact, that Nintendo Switch Online will also continue to operate. Whether this means we can play GTA Online or it will be a way to continue enjoying old titles is still a mystery. Nintendo, can you end our agony once and for all, please?
