You can now play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on Meta Quest 3 in VR, thanks to an unofficial standalone mod from GeT_RiCh. Right now, it’s the closest thing to a native headset version of Los Santos that anyone has managed to put together.
Meta first announced an official Meta Quest version at Facebook Connect in October 2021. It never came out. Then, in August 2024, Meta said the project was on hold indefinitely while Meta and Rockstar turned their attention to other projects. Fans have long pointed to a few likely reasons: how hard it would be to rebuild Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for first-person VR, the limits of Quest 2-era hardware, and business priorities changing along the way.
There is a catch, and it’s not a small one: you can’t just pull this mod from an app store. You need a PC, a Meta Quest 3 with Developer Mode and USB debugging turned on, about 15GB of free space on your PC and 6GB on the headset, the original Google Play APK version 2.11.311, and a PS2 sound pack. And if something breaks, you’re on your own, because Rockstar, Take-Two, and Meta aren’t offering any official support.
So if you’ve been waiting to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in VR on Meta Quest 3, and you don’t mind getting your hands a little dirty, this is absolutely worth grabbing. It also says a lot about where the most interesting VR conversion work for older games is still happening, in communities like Flat2VR.
