Blue Box, also known as Ao no Hako, has confirmed a second season. And we won’t have to wait long to watch it. Because Koji Miura’s manga will arrive on Netflix before the end of the year, in the final wave of anime releases for 2026. As part of the fall lineup, it will premiere on October 4 with new episodes released weekly.
A different romance and sports manga
Although the manga is already finished, the anime still has quite a lot of material left to adapt. And it doesn’t seem like the second season will be enough to cover it all. This anime follows Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu Kano, who are in the badminton and basketball clubs, respectively. But while he’s simply mediocre, she’s an ace on the team. But by a twist of fate, Chinatsu will end up living in Taiki’s house. And a relationship will begin to take shape.
Part romance, part sports manga, placing a great emphasis on how each of them overcomes the obstacles to reach nationals with their respective teams, the anime has been a hit because of that perfect combination of genres. Also because it doesn’t focus only on men’s or women’s sports: Chinatsu’s athletic ambitions are never treated as less important than Taiki’s.
In fact, this second season should follow Chinatsu even more closely. At least that’s what the trailer suggests, since Electric Circus, the studio behind the anime adaptation, is making some significant changes to the original manga. In any case, it promises to be a magnificent second season that’s well worth taking a look at.
