With the release of the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple has introduced a very interesting feature: a programmable physical button known as the Action Button. This button replaces the traditional mute/sound switch that used to be located above the volume buttons, and this change also brings a slight interface adjustment: a mute indicator.
Mute yes, indicator no (or vice versa)
The action button offers multiple functionalities but loses the ability to let us know whether the phone is muted or not just by looking at it. Whether we use it to open the camera, run a shortcut, or mute the iPhone, there is no visual indicator of that status on the button itself, because there is one next to the time on the device’s screen.
Once the mute mode is activated, on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, an icon in the form of a crossed-out bell appears next to the time in the status bar. This symbol indicates that the device is in mute mode. While it can be very useful to have this visual indicator, you might also want to hide it.
Fortunately, Apple has thought of this and included an option to hide this mute mode indicator in the status bar. The steps to do so are quite simple:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone 15 Pro.
- Go to Sound & Haptics.
- Toggle the “Show in Status Bar” option on or off as desired.
And there you have it! With these simple steps, the mute mode indicator will no longer appear in the status bar when this mode is activated.
