Square Enix doesn’t stop. After the recent releases of Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, all signs point to a new title for the franchise, the highly anticipated remake of Final Fantasy IX.
During the presentation of PAX East, Naoki Yoshida (director of Final Fantasy XIV) announced the arrival of new content to Final Fantasy XIV, all of them based on Final Fantasy IX. These include the Ark summon as a mount and a rope servant of Princess Garnet. The expansion, called Dawntrail, would be available for the Collector’s Edition and the Digital Collector’s Edition of Final Fantasy XIV.
However, the words that Yoshida used in the presentation caused the most stir among the community. According to the Japanese director, the reason behind the direct references to Final Fantasy IX is “a secret“. Are we facing a clue of what is to come?
As expected, this has caused the rumors about the possible remake of Final Fantasy IX to grow even more. Recognized informants within the industry have already hinted that this remake would be something more modest than that of Final Fantasy VII. Either way, we would surely be facing a work worthy of its original release.
