The recent family of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards is under scrutiny following a report of a manufacturing defect affecting a small number of units.
Users from various forums, including Reddit, have pointed out that the RTX 5080, 5090, and 5070 Ti graphics cards have fewer Raster Output Processor (ROP) units than specified by NVIDIA.
Specifically, the RTX 5080 should integrate 112 ROP, but some models have been found with only 104, thus generating a performance that is 4% lower than expected.
Another failure from Nvidia joins the burning power cables and the low supply
Although this impact is considered minor and does not affect artificial intelligence and computing workloads, NVIDIA has confirmed the issue. The company has indicated that less than 0.5% of the RTX 5090, 5090D, and 5070 Ti cards exhibit this anomaly.
Consumers who find themselves in this situation can contact the manufacturer of their graphics card to request a replacement. It is also suggested to check the number of ROPs present in the GPU using diagnostic tools like TechPowerUp GPU-Z.
NVIDIA has assured that the issue has already been fixed in the production lines; however, some Founders Edition cards may also be affected.
It is important that users who have purchased one of these GPUs check if their unit is among the affected ones, as it will not be possible to resolve this issue through BIOS or driver updates, being an irreparable hardware defect.
With more than a month and a half since its launch, the issues related to the RTX 50 series continue, and although the shortage of these products is still a topic of discussion, users should be alert regarding this recent manufacturing problem.
