On Steam there are always sales. Let’s admit it. There’s never a moment when there aren’t sales because it’s a season or because there’s an event or because a certain genre deserves its moment. Now it’s Halloween’s turn. That’s fine by us. Anything that means saving money and buying games seems great to us. And that’s why we’re here to recommend eight great games perfect for having a terrifying Halloween that you shouldn’t miss.
The Cat Lady – €2.19 (€8.79 | -75%)
Let’s start with a classic. The Cat Lady is one of the first indies that made a huge impact on video games and, even today, a different kind of horror game. Tremendously visceral and sinister, going into some places much darker than we’re used to seeing in the medium, it’s a video game that to this day feels utterly unique. Because really, how many games are about a 40-year-old woman on the verge of suicide and how her life suddenly changes?
SOMA – €4.92 (€28.99 | -83%)
Probably the best-known and most beloved psychological horror game in the history of the medium, but for good reason. From the creators of the Amnesia franchise, this game takes their signature style of horror into science fiction and adds plenty of philosophical ideas. The result? A game that isn’t just sinister because of what happens, but also because of what it says. Even in its enemy-free mode it’s incredibly terrifying. And at that price, how could you resist?
Look Outside – €5.99 (€9.99 | -40%)
There aren’t many horror JRPGs, though they aren’t exactly an exception either. The latest to come out is Look Outside, one of the most brilliant and intelligent games we’ve had the pleasure of playing in recent years. Intelligent, fun, full of charismatic characters and perfectly blending survival horror and RPG design, it’s an absolutely excellent game. Besides, its developer keeps updating it and adding new content. So your money couldn’t be better spent.
Mouthwashing – €6.90 (€12.79 | -40%)
One of the most popular and acclaimed indies of 2024 is a perfect horror game for Halloween. Short enough to finish in an afternoon and then suffer trauma for three months because of it, it’s an excellent game for this time of year. With a more narrative approach and focusing on a terrible situation, it’s one of those games that leave a mark. And it’s worth it for that.
Dead by Daylight – €7.99 (€19.99 | -60%)
At literally the opposite end of the spectrum is Dead by Daylight. A game that embraces the classic slasher horror tropes and where everything revolves around survivors running from monsters and killers in an asymmetric survival game. If you’ve always been curious, this is a great time to jump in both because of its price and because of the season. Especially because the game is more alive than ever and it seems it hasn’t aged at all.
Phasmophobia – €13.29 (€18.99 | -30%)
One of the great phenomena of 2020, which hasn’t aged either. In many ways the original friend slop, the game to play with friends, Phasmophobia is a perfect game if you want to spend Halloween with your friends. Ideal for having a horror atmosphere, but where cooperation is key, it’s the perfect game for those who want to spend it with friends, though without leaving home.
World of Horror – €14.62 (€19.50 | -25%)
Junji Ito fans, are you there. We know. There are quite a few of you, as his manga sales show. And this is your game. Clearly inspired by the Japanese author’s manga, this sinister RPG with roguelike elements takes Ito’s stylistic and narrative forms and adds Lovecraft and weird fiction to the mix resulting in a game as strange as it is fascinating. Besides, it’s going to receive an update that will expand the game for Halloween, so there is no better reason to play it.
DayZ – 28,99€ (€57.99 | -50%)
To finish, a game for those for whom Halloween is an excuse to throw themselves into the deepest pit they can find. There isn’t a deeper rabbit hole on sale than DayZ. A multiplayer survival game in a post-apocalyptic world, where zombies are as dangerous as the need to find food and resources and, of course, the other players. A chilling and brilliant game that, we assure you, can give you thousands of hours of play if you want it to. Starting this very Halloween night.
