Not every day you turn 60. Today we celebrate exactly that with Doctor Who, one of the longest-running and beloved series in British television, and probably in global science fiction. And there are good reasons for it. Whether you’re a seasoned Doctor Who fan or someone approaching it for the first time, you have good reasons to be excited about this anniversary. Especially because we already have you covered on everything you need to know to enjoy this fantastic journey.
Doctor Who is premiering on Disney+ with three specials to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Titled “The Stellar Beast,” “The Wild Blue Yonder,” and “The Laugh,” we only know one thing for sure: the Doctor’s past is going to be of great importance here. It’s not for nothing that he reincarnates into one of his former forms for the first time, becoming the Fifteenth Doctor in a form very similar to the Tenth Doctor, accompanied by his two companions, Rose Tyler and Donna Noble, and facing a villain who hasn’t appeared in 57 years: The Toymaker.
All of this will serve as a link to the next season of Doctor Who, which will be the fourteenth. Fortunately, it is perfectly viable to watch the series without having seen the previous thirteen seasons.
In addition, these three episodes will have an exceptional cast. With David Tennant playing The Doctor and Neil Patrick Harris as The Toymaker, the rest of the cast includes Yasmin Finney, Jacqueline King, Karl Collins, and Ruth Madeley. With Ncuti Gatwa making his appearance as the sixteenth Doctor, making this three-part special particularly interesting. As it will also introduce us to the new incarnation of the character.
This special premieres today on Disney+. The first episode will air on November 25, with the next two announced for December 1 and 8. And although there is no date yet for the fourteenth season of Doctor Who, it is likely that we won’t have to wait much once we enter 2024.
